John Scriven MSc, ASCC
About the FOunder of MOVE WELL (aka ‘THE MOVEMENT GUY’)
John is a dedicated advocate of natural movement and rehabilitation, possessing a profound comprehension of contemporary pain science, patient-centred care, and evidence-based practice.
He firmly believes in an alternative or original approach to teaching movement, one that is more organic and genuine, aligning with the body's inherent design and the evolutionary patterns of human movement spanning millennia.
With an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning in the realm of movement, John boasts exceptional academic and vocational qualifications, backed by two decades of invaluable experience.
He has had the privilege of collaborating with world-class athletes, coaches, and scientists, gleaning insights into effective methodologies while also discerning the pitfalls to avoid. This wealth of knowledge and expertise has culminated in the development of a unique system of movement and rehabilitation that stands apart from any other.
The story behind the approach is having studied and very successfully implemented contemporary movement and strength science systems, he still felt something was missing. The specialist approaches of the modern era serve a very specific outcome very well, but they miss the human need, in fact, they are not human-centred. He saw strong movers in one or two patterns which served a specific goal but were unable to apply it in real-world scenarios and had low physical literacy outside of a gym environment. Additionally, he noted that contemporary training approaches lacked mental stimulation which led to a lack of long-term adherence, it just wasn’t fun or an optimal place to learn joyful movement.
Taking all the positives learned from traditional movement and rehabilitation approaches, John went on a humbling ten-year journey of movement, studying multiple systems and philosophies with international movement and rehabilitation experts, mentors and methods.
The culmination of this is a well-rounded, human-centred approach to movement that is an optimal blend of neurodevelopmental physiology, practical movement skill development, evolutionary science and modern evidence-based practice.
Beyond his passion for facilitating optimal movement, John finds solace in nature and embraces a minimalist lifestyle in the tranquil countryside of Jersey, alongside his partner Lucy and their young son, Forest (John’s most important teacher).
